I think people take things for granted too easily. We are mostly lucky people and we seldom realise it. As the saying goes, you seldom realise what you have in front of you until it's gone.

We are all lucky people living in Singapore. We live in a house, have food, and basic amenities. We quickly forget about the people around us who may be living in less comfortable conditions and worse, in poverty. We are instead caught up with pursuing more and more money and power, so much that in the face of failure, we are disappointed tremendously. We may or may not lose hope, but we forget that we did not lose our house, our friends, family, or the money in our pockets that we use to buy tomorrow's lunch. We forget that what we already have is still good enough. Whatever failure we face in pursuit of more money hence should not come as disappointment.

Some of us are lucky enough to have maids to do our housekeeping. For those of us who don't, we are lucky for having a means of keeping our house clean and comfortable - water, washing machines, etc. Some are lucky to have the means of private transport, some of us are lucky to have the means to higher education at more costly institutions, while the rest of us are lucky enough to have decent basic education.
Whatever it is we have or don't have, we forget that we are lucky to have what we already have.
